Mancat Monday

The boys have had a pretty good week.

Rusty got a new tunnel to play in...our old ones had to be tossed because that was easier than cleaning them from the panleuk.  It is a bit small, but he seems to enjoy it.

Flynn worked hard at having his photo made...Auntie needed one for her work of all the boys.  Love the tongue bleep. 

Oliver had some diarrhea and didn't feel well.  He also had to get a butt bath because it was all over him and making him red and raw back there.  A quick soak and scrub and a slathering of desitin and he was feeling better. 

Harrison has been a love bug and enjoying having Aunties bedroom door open again.

I've mentioned before how Auntie is keeping her bedroom closed, with Sophie and Pirate in there during the day, so they can eat in peace.  The young boys just pester these older cats and upset them, so it is easier this way.  Sophie has never been a good eater to start with and as she has aged, her appetite has decreased even more.

Over the last 6 weeks, Sophie has been going downhill.  The vet determined she had some sort of digestive disease.  Auntie put her on several types of medicine to see if that would help her recover or at least remain stable.  She did ok for a while, and then started declining again rapidly this past week.  It was determined that the best course was to euthanize her.  RIP Cousin Sophie.

September 10, 2001 - June 14, 2018

The little boys don't seem to notice that she is gone.  They had been separated for quite some time, except at night.  I think they will be more upset that there is less food lying around for them to nibble on in Aunties room!

Cousin Pirate is now able to come out and be a part of the group again.  It took the littles a day or so to just leave him alone, but everyone seems to be getting along now.  Cousin Pirate is now the oldest in the house, at 15.  We only have males now...Auntie and I are outnumbered!

Mancats Renovate

The mancats have had an exciting week...The downstairs of the house has been crazy messed up, while the new flooring was installed...

 Cousin's Sophie and Georgie enjoyed the new jungle gym of furniture in the breakfast nook...we were thankful everything fit, but it was a bit like tetris tying to get it all in there!

 Ollie quickly tired of the process...moving furniture is hard work

 One day, the floor guys came and ripped out the areas of the carpet where the cats had been naughty!  They covered those areas with a product called "Kilz" to get rid of any remaining odor.  This area outside the powder room was constantly dirty, just from kitty feet tracking litter out of the bathroom.

 This area in the dining room was the main naughty spot.  Before we invested in new flooring, we made sure we had the culprits under control...it was all behavioral, and some prozac is working nicely to keep them happy and worry free and using the litter box appropriately!

 Cousin Pirate is guarding the new wood floor...it has to sit in your home for a few days and acclimate before being installed. 

Cousin Pirate, Tanner and Ollie laying on the new carpet in the den.  We put hardwoods in the front room (where the boxes were sitting), the dining room, down the hall, and then created this faux hall in front of the powder room, to protect the carpet.  Then we replaced the carpet in the den.

 

The boys like it all now, but Ollie was a bit afraid of the new floor for a while, especially the hardwoods in the hall...a few ping pong balls helped to show him how fun this new area was going to be!

 

It took a while, but all the furniture is back where it belongs now, and the house is getting back to normal...Mancats are through renovating for a while!

Two times Two on Tuesday

Canned food is a nightly treat at our house.  Everyone gets a fourth of a small can...sometimes we mix lysine in each portion, and sometimes we add a bit of Missing Link.

 They aren't always so bunched up like this eating...I guess everyone was hungry when the food was ready to serve! 

Some of the favorite flavors are "Chicken and Liver", "Ocean Whitefish and Tuna", and "Turkey and Giblets".  Auntie is standing guard because Tanner eats faster than the rest and will try to finish their plates too!

Two on Tuesday

Tanner and Cousin Sophie are checking out the goods from our PetSmart shopping spree...we should be set for another 6 months! 

Mr Chewy Review

We were given an opportunity to review some cat treats from the Mr Chewy site.  We have done reviews for them before and did not hesitate to do another one.  Mr Chewy's customer service is superb.  We love the fast shipping, and for all you cats out there, they pack their boxes with the most fabulous brown crinkle paper! 

 

 Another great feature of Mr Chewy is the box size...it is perfect for most cats to fit in comfortably...Cousin Sophie will now demonstrate.

The treats we chose to review are the Natural Balance, Perfect Bites, Rabbit Formula.

 These treats also come in Salmon and Chicken.

 Smokey gobbled his treats right up!  He had a bit of trouble with the texture, they are on the soft and chewy side, as opposed to a crunchy treat.  He finally got the hang of the texture and ate all 4 that were given.  He even ate more as the day wore on and more were offered.

 Tanner does not mind chewy treats and enjoyed his sample immensely.  He loved the flavor and did not hesitate in the least to try these new treats.

Cousin Pirate was not impressed to begin with...he sniffed and then walked away.  However, when he was offered these treats a second time, he ate every one he was given.

 

These treats are low in calories, so you can feel good about giving them to your cats.

The only cat in our house that would not eat them was Cousin Sophie, but she loved the box and the crinkle paper.

Mancat Monday

Tanner and Cousin Sophie enjoyed some playtime with the snake...

 The snake had been lost for a while, but then reappeared one day...not sure where it had been hiding!

Tanner and Sophie tried to keep the snake from escaping under this door...eventually though, it was gone...

Two on Tuesday

Today for Two on Tuesday we have two photos each of two cats and two topics to cover :)

 Cousin Sophie and Tanner laying in Aunties bed...we have seen a shift in which cats are hanging out together since Devon's passing.  Cousin Sophie took things the hardest, as Devon was her best friend.  She has finally gotten back into running around the house like a mad woman!  I'm glad to see Tanner trying to fill the hole that Devon left for Sophie.

Smokey and Cousin Pirate in my bed...yes, that is where Smokey sleeps at night, and I have but the tiniest bit of pillow for myself :)  Pirate is a bit crazy...he acts like he is afraid of me, and will run when I walk near him...but I find him in my room a lot during the day.  So strange. 

Smokey update:  Yesterday's visit went very well.  The vet was pleased with how he looked.  We have our game plan for the year and we are to return in one year.

Mancats Decorate

Mancats love to decorate, especially when the holiday features black cats!  We actually put our Halloween stuff out over the Labor Day weekend, when we had ample time and would be able to enjoy it for several weeks!

 Devon and Sophie were very curious about the box and the tree inside...

Two on Tuesday, Mystery Solved

We had messed up cushions and blankets and could not figure out what was going on, or who was responsible...

Mystery solved!!  Smokey and Cousin Sophie are the culprits!  I found them the other day like this...I think I surprised them when I came in the room!

Trio Tuesday

An oldie but a goodie...I love when I find the cats hanging out with one another.  Smokey has been smitten with Sophie since the day she walked into the house :)  Tanner fit right in when he came along and I would find the three of them laying together quite regularly.

This photo is from 2007.  Now Tanner has become more anxious and nervous around everyone.  I don't really know what has happened to create this attitude.  Has anyone else experienced a change like this?  How were you able to help the nervous one overcome his fears?  Tanner will lay with me and snuggle with Devon some, but I normally find him by himself upstairs in a bed alone.  We are currently trying Amitryptaline to see if that will help him, along with feliway and a calming collar.  Once our two month supply is used, I am thinking about switching him to another anti-anxiety to see if we get better results.

 Window views with Smokey, Devon, Tanner, Cousin Pirate and Cousin Sophie!

These photos were all from a few years ago...just felt like remembering my boy Mojo today.  He loved to go outside, but could go very little due to his allergies issues.  During his last couple of weeks of life, we were having some really good days, health wise for him and weather, so we let him enjoy the fresh air and the outdoors.  (Supervised of course)  This is the look of pure bliss on his face!
