Family on Friday

Tanner was a foster kitten for several months before I made the ultimate decision to adopt him. He came to us at 13 days old, along with a sister, Riley. There were two other kittens in the litter too. I wanted to show you Tanner's family...
This is Tanner :) He was a few months old here, and had just recovered from a nasty bought of ringworm :( Our whole house was infected including me and Auntie.
This is Tanner's brother, Syrah. He was fostered at another home at first, but then came to live with us until he was adopted.
This is Riley...she had the softest fur, almost felt like a rabbit. We bottle raised her as well, and she was eventually adopted into a loving home.

I don't have a picture of the other sister, Chardonnay. She was only with us a short while, and is thought to be the main ringworm culprit...at least she was the first to show signs. She was quarantined to another home immediately in the hopes of it not spreading, but no such luck. Chardonnay (Nay Nay) was a calico.

There you have it...Tanner's family. Smokey and Devon were found all alone so I don't know what sort of siblings they could have had.

Do you keep in touch with your littermates?

R is for...

We are getting close to the end of the alphabet, so let's get going with the letter R...
RECEPTION - This is my cousin and my sister (Auntie) at my other cousin's wedding reception. His wedding was low key, outside in Asheville. The weather was gorgeous, and the food was delicious...our Granny made most of it :)
RESTING - Here are Trey, Sean and Dillon resting in a sunny window. They were foster kittens and have all found homes.

ROAR - Lane showing off her mighty roar!!
ROOSTER - A painted rooster at the State Fair...can't wait to go to the fair this year...I love to get a polish sausage and some vinegar fries. They also have the best ice cream there too.
Stay tuned...tomorrow is S!

N is for...

Well, we are over half way finished with the Alphabet challenge, and some letters are definitely a challenge! Today we have a mixture of cats and other things...representing the letter N...

NOSE - This is Ali, one of the cats I catsit for...showing off her pretty pink nose.
NAPPING - Smokey has good form and looks very pretty on his purple blanket.

NAPPING again - Cats are the only ones that can nap...Here's my Granny and my Dad taking a quick, dare I say, Cat Nap after lunch.
NIP NANNER - Devon got the prized nip nanner for his birthday last year, and just loves it!
There you have it...the letter N. Tomorrow will be O...Oh boy!

F is for...

F was actually pretty easy...here goes...
FRIENDS and FAMILY ...Devon and Tanner are brothers and best buds.

FISH - Charles is happy to be on the blog again. He is a betta fish.
FROGS!! Tanner is dressed like a frog for Halloween...he looks thrilled doesn't he? :)

FLOWERS!! Spring is breaking out all over these days, and soon we'll have tons of flowers everywhere. I took this picture at the State Fair last year.

More pretty flowers...this color of lantana is my favorite.

More Flowers...these were at a farmers market in Minnesota. So beautiful.

FLAIR-UPS...Mojo had really bad allergies, and he would flair up around his mouth. We were lucky that our vet at the vet school would let us submit photos of him, so she could track his progress.
FIBROSARCOMA - in this picture you can clearly see Mojo's tumor. It had many lumps and bumps on it, and a few sores. We were lucky that it never ruptured or oozed. Mojo was still enjoying what little bit of life he had left here...
Tomorrow is the letter G...

Family Friday

The other day when I posted pictures of Pirate, some of you were unsure about who he is...so I thought I'd take a day to write about him. My sister and I live together and we each have cats. I have Smokey, Devon and Tanner currently. She has Pirate and Sophie.

Pirate came to live with us in 2003 as a kitten. He had a stump of a leg, or a peg leg, hence the name Pirate. He could get around fine, but he would continually hit the stump on something and just shake it off...I image it was like hitting your funny bone or something. The stump kept a sore on it from being hit on things. The decision was made to have the stump removed up to his hip. He spent one night at the vet and was back home. He healed really quickly, and without that part of a leg, he was able to get around much better. He can climb stairs like a champ. He can jump, but not high enough to get on the counters...he is one of our best cats :)

He loves to play with fevvers especially and Da Bird is one of his favorites. He can wrestle with the best of them too. The main problem with have is because he is slightly curved, when he runs at the others, he looks threatening, so they (mainly Tanner) are afraid of him at times. Other than that, he is just like any other cat.
His tail is super thick to compensate too. The vets have to alter where they give some of his shots because of the missing leg. He is also a bit sensitive to you messing with the remaining leg. He potties fine and loves to dig!

Don't think though that he doesn't get into any trouble...he can find ways to be naughty just like his cousins! Here he is in a potted plant on the porch at the apartment.

Well, that's Pirate. I'm trying to get my sister to be a guest blogger and explain why he believes he is Canadian. I think she'll be posting soon to tell that story...since the Winter Olympics are about to start up again and they are in Canada this year.
