Our friend brought her over to the house in a plastic tub, along with her heat lamps and food. Sasha seemed unhappy in the plastic bin, because it was smaller than what she was used to, so Auntie and I started looking for something better. We found an inflatable kids pool and put her in there. She loved it!
After a while though, she punctured parts of it, so we reinforced it with boxes and other stuff around the edges to keep her in. She hung out in the cats room, with the door closed so her room would stay nice and warm.
She loved to eat fruits and veggies, and could be quite the messy eater.
Here she is at my parents house because we didn't feel comfortable leaving her lamps burning while we went home for Christmas. Sasha hung out in the bathroom and enjoyed laying on the floor heat vents! Here she is eating her Christmas breakfast...lettuce, bananas, and grapes.
I use this time to say to people looking for a pet of anykind, exotic or not, to make sure you research and know what you are getting into....their life is in your hands!
Thanks and I hope you all enjoyed meeting Sasha...she's a wild woman for sure.
Sasha is getting very large right now, and our friends are looking to possibly move her to a zoo or something like that, which had been their plan since they took her from the student. She has at least doubled in size from when these pictures were taken!

I really wish people wouldn't be so thoughtless about acquiring any kind of pet--exotic or otherwise. Sasha is so lucky to have all of you, and I hope she finds an appropriate forever home.
ReplyDeleteAwww Sasha!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tortoise - I love the way she's nibbling at all that healthy veg!
I'm so glad she was rescued by your kind friend. Oh dear. Yes, please do research first before opting to have an exotic pet! Poor Sasha!
I hope she does find a permanent home able to look after her and her needs -considering she may live for a very, very, very, very long time!
Take care
x
Yes indeed, someone needs to take proper care of her. I saw one something like that in my backyard once, I though a rock was moving!
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to meet Sasha....and we are very happy that she wasn't just put out in the wild to fend for herself........we are purring that a good home will be found for her.

ReplyDeleteSasha is cute!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people don't realize how big turtles can get - and it is hard to explain it when they are cute and little to start with. We hope Sasha can find a home more suitable to to a big turtle - a children's zoo might be a great option.
Sasha is such a cutie!!! So glad she was rescued and we hope she finds the purrfect zoo to live out her life!

ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual house guest. It's amazing the amount of people who don't research before getting any kind of pet.
ReplyDeleteWe have never had a pet turtle. Guess it is fun. It looks like a nice turtle. Good luck with it and hope it does find a nice zoo.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting post, and mewmie visited the link and yes, there is a lot of responsibility to caring for one of these kind of tortoises! We hope she finds a good furever home that knows how to care for her!
ReplyDeleteOMG Sasha is gorgeous. I saw two turtles hanging outside a house one day. The owner said they were getting some sun :). One was three times as large as the other. I wonder how large they can grow. Please keep us updated on Sasha :).
