Happy Gotcha Day Devon!!

On this day, 9 years ago, Devon came to live with me. He had been found a few weeks prior in the woods, and was being raised by Momma Carol. I would email her almost daily, saying that I would like to foster this cutie. She would respond...he doesn't need a foster home, he needs a permanent one.

I had 6 fosters at the time and really didn't have any more room...so I told her when my kids were adopted, I would be able to take him. She brought him to adoptathons so I could play with him and love on him. At one event a gentleman came up and was interested in Devon. Everyone there had suspicions about this man, and was like, oh no...this lady over here (pointing at me) is adopting him. The man came over to me and asked, are you adopting this kitten? I had a weird feeling too, and was like, absolutely, this kitten is mine.

As luck would have it, my fosters were ALL adopted that day, and Devon came home with me! He was about 5-6 weeks old, and eating on his own. He was spoiled rotten from day one, and we've tried our best to keep him that way :)
Thanks for being a great cat Devon!! I am so blessed to have you in my life!

PS - It's also Aunties birthday today...

Happy Birthday Mojo

Today is Mojo's birthday...he would be anywhere from 14 to close to 18 years old if he were still with us. This is his second birthday at the bridge. He is loving life there I am sure, because he loved life here with us. His motto was always, Life is Good.
Mojo was a spunky boy and I miss him every day...
He had a lot of trials with us...this photo was taken about a month after he starting living with me. He was still a foster at the time, and had an ear polyp removed. He always appreciated everything he was given...this new blanket was an immediate hit!
This was taken later that year in December...we had been going through a food trial to determine the cause of his allergy problems. He was finally released to eat whatever he wanted, so we made his favorite...stew beef and gravy. We are having that tonight as well in his honor!
His first Christmas with us, my mom crocheted this blanket for him...all the other boys had gotten theirs the year before, and she didn't want him left out. He loved it! We had decided to adopt him by this time, so he was getting more spoiled than ever.
One of my favorite pictures of him...sitting on the ledge, looking into the kitchen...probably trying to get something else to eat.
Things I miss most about Mojo today are:
  • Seeing him snuggled in a favorite bed
  • Hearing him boss me around with his 'pack a day' voice
  • Watching him attack a favorite toy and diving under the couch to get it
  • Seeing the pure joy on his face when you would pop the top of the can of food

I am thankful for the 4 short years Mojo lived with me, and know he is having a blast at the Bridge today. Fly High Superman!!

Thursday in the Garden

Today in the garden we have Smokey, who was the elusive cat in yesterdays photo...many of you found him, standing behind Cousin Sophie!!
Smokey says the Black-eyed Susans are still looking pretty...the birds love these flowers.
The basil has seen better days...although the bees love the blooms! Watch out Smokey, don't get stung...
Mr. Bell Pepper is still producing...we have many peppers in the freezer to use this winter...he did a great job for us this summer...he loves the hot weather!

Here's a short clip of Smokey checking out the yard...he and I were the only ones out there, so he came over to make sure I was still ok...such a sweet boy :)

For more great gardens...check out the Society of Feline Gardeners.

Mancats love the Fair

The North Carolina State Fair is taking place right now in Raleigh...and the flats and I visited on Friday. We had a great time...I love looking at the animals, seeing the exhibits and of course eating!
Here are the Flats with a skeleton of a cat, and a real cat brain!
The flats loved all the fevvers and we even got to hold a few of the baby chicks...they are so soft and fast!

This Big Fevver is made out of recycled materials...The State Fair tries to promote going 'green', and yes, that's our mom holding us all :)

Thankful Thursday

Smokey here today and I wanted to share with you some things I am thankful for...

  • I am thankful that Fall is here which means cooler weather and fewer allergies. My eyes are looking and feeling fantastic these days! (Not like in the pic above)
  • I am thankful for my bouncing ball with the streamers...I love that toy! It is so fun to chase around and chew on.
  • I am thankful that my mom is a softie and will give me special treats when I go in the pantry!
  • I am thankful I get brushed every morning...my furs are super shiny! (sometimes I'm thankful because that makes Devon jealous)
  • I am thankful to live in a home, with plenty of food...there are many people in the world that aren't as lucky as I am. I heard mom mention something called 'sponsoring a child'...I hope no more kitties are coming to live with us though. :)
  • I am thankful for my brothers...they provide plenty of entertainment throughout the day for me.
  • I am thankful I have out grown some of their antics, and can't believe I was ever that silly.
  • I am thankful for our blog readers and friends!

Two on Tuesday

Today we have another Halloween edition of Two on Tuesday...
These sweet black cats were made by one of the vendors at the Apple Festival.
Tanner is always the pumpkin for some reason when it comes to decorations, so here he is hanging with a friend.

Mancats are Angels

Devon believes if he wears this costume around, that no one will notice if it is naughty...

Devon won't be naughty if he goes out as an angel...does anyone really believe that story?

Cuteness always comes to the rescue when naughtiness abounds! No costume required.

Friends on Friday

The Flats met this lady at the Apple Festival last weekend...she made their family Christmas ornament for 2010.
Here she is writing their names on the ornament...
She loved meeting the flats...we can't wait to hang our new ornament on the tree this year!

Thursday in the Garden

Today we start with some bad news...brace yourselves...you may want to sit down for this one...
The catnip has died! Gasp! Horrors! We will have to get another plant from our friend. It was doing so well, but I think the summer heat really got to it this year.

Smokey is out checking the rest of the garden for casualties...looking good so far...

Devon claimed this as his spot to sit quietly. Devon eventually looked 'wild' so he sat in the stroller, well contained for the rest of the time outside!

Tanner loves to prune the Hibiscus...he is doing a great job!
Smokey is a live-in 'edger'...keep up the good work Smokey!

To see more gardens check out the Society of Feline Gardeners.

Mancats love the Sink

This is the first time I've ever seen Devon, or any of my mancats in the sink, so I was thankful the camera was close by!

Happy Monday everyone!! We plan to get around to all the LIVESTRONG posts today, as we were gone most of the weekend.

We LIVESTRONG Today!

Today we LIVESTRONG! Mojo showed us all that Life is Good. Whatever situation you are in, make the most of everyday.

We send purrs to all those who are currently battling cancer, or know someone who is.

We support organizations and foundations that are trying to find a cure. Mojo donated his tumor to help research...maybe one day there will be no more Fibrosarcoma in cats!
