Tanner is posting today because he is still struggling with congestion and would like some purrs. He went to the vet a couple of weeks ago and thankfully, his bloodwork all came back normal. He is congested, but it doesn't seem to be going away.
He went back yesterday because he is still very stuffy and now an eye is running. We are increasing his lysine, adding a small dose of Prednisolone and some eye drops to his medications. He already has an appointment scheduled for Oct 18th for a recheck. We will evaluate our plan and adjust as needed then. The vet feels it is either allergies or a viral infection, so antibiotics aren't needed. We are just trying to find the right combination to offer Tanner some relief from the stuffy nose and sneezing.
On a happier note, we escaped Hurricane Matthew with no damage. We received over 6 inches of rain and had quite a bit of wind, but did not lose power!
The day after is always so beautiful and fresh feeling! We were still having a good bit of wind, so we opened the windows to air out the house. The boys loved it!
Might not have been the best for Tanner, if he is having allergies, but the panthers enjoyed it. I love how they hang out together these days. Oliver has really taken to them. Harrison, sitting on the sill with Oliver, is his mini me. Flynn, on the step, is such a sweetheart. He has started talking a little bit now and comes running when you call his name. Everyone slept well that night!
I hope to give a positive update on Tanner next week...fingers crossed the steroids will help him!
Purrs to Tanner, we hope he feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen the boys got so sick a few winters ago with some virus, I spent a couple of weeks running a hot shower numerous times through the days (when home) and nights (little sleep) to help them breath. Wasn't much fun for any of us, but it seemed to help at least in the short term.
There is more recent research about Lysine not being helpful...I've read a few articles within the past year or two. Might want to Google and see what you can find. I'm glad your vet doesn't push antibiotics for every little thing, though, especially if viral. Too many vets do, IMO.
Finally, it's great you escaped Hurricane Matthew, other than rain. Six inches is A LOT, though! Major flooding in homes and businesses, I'm sure.
Take care!
poor Tanner. you can use regular saline drops up his nose that may help with the stuffiness. love the house panthers in the window!
ReplyDeleteI am purring lots for Tanner to feel better! It would not surprise me if it were allergies - Binga has been sneezing some with this fall weather.
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry Tanner isn't feeling well. We send him lots of purrs. Ernie's allergies were really bad lately, but he's doing better now. Usually pred helps. He's now taking an over-the-counter allergy pill too.
ReplyDeleteTanner, I send a ton of purrs to you !
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better so soon
stuffy nose and sneezing is not fun
Purrs
=^x^=
Poor Tanner, I am purring that the congestion eases for him.
ReplyDeleteHoping Tanner is feeling chipper soon! So glad you came out of Matthew relatively unscathed! Great news!
ReplyDeleteTanner, we hope you're feeling better real soon. We bet they are allergies ... we've been struggling with them, too. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you Tanner, I hope you feel better soon. I am glad you didn't lose power or have any problems from the hurricane.
ReplyDeleteManna, Dexter, and I send our prayers and purrs out for Tanner! I hope that he is feeling better soon. There are a lot of allergens around at this time of year. I'm glad that Hurricane Matthew didn't affect your area too much. That was a scary storm!
